KATHERINE JEANS

I'm passionate about learning, exploring and sharing the arts. My artistic career began as a director of film and television programs more than 18 years ago. Some of my award winning TV work includes: The Group of Seven-Art for a Nation , Canvas of Conflict a look at war artists, Whole Notes, Footnotes, Homes by Design , the Gemini award- winning children's television series The Toy Castle and more. Presently, I'm directing a documentary on the symbolism of the architecture of The New Canadian War Museum.
 

I've been blessed to have worked with, traveled and learned from many artists in many art forms including; film, music, dance and the visual arts. It's these experiences that evoke my inspiration as a visual artist and painter.

My paintings are my interpretation of how I see things around me. It might be a quick glance at a magical sunset, a vast sea of colour or just the pure elegance of thoughts.

I love the individuality of painting and how it makes me turn inward. It's the canvas and myself and the paint becomes the poetry of words.

I especially like to step back and watch other peoples reactions. I'm always surprised at how personal art truly is!

Over the past six months I have been painting commissions and truly loving it. I have embraced creating a new show entitled eclectic THOUGHTS. It starts May 14 at one of Ottawa's finest restaurants - Restaurant e18hteen in the market.
